Exercising Control
Daily Insight Video
Happy Wednesday!
We are talking about Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s book Flow this week. Today, I want to focus on a specific aspect of flow, the importance of exercising control.
One of the key characteristics of people in flow is that they look at risks or potential bad things that can happen, and use their skills to mitigate or limit the risks. Stresses, bad things, and failures become opportunities for us to use more of our skills.
From this perspective, the bad things are actually useful. They push us beyond our limits and force us to use more of our skills. This provides us with more awareness of our own abilities, and by staying in control, we can take on more risks.
Be thankful for the challenges that lie ahead. Take control, and use the skills you have to move beyond the stresses and failures in your life.
