Focus on the Learning and Being
Daily Insight Video
I just finished an amazing training session this morning where we focused on a client’s learning and being.
One thing I really got out of our discussion is that there is a sense of relief when you are working with a client and focusing on the learning and the being. This is because our natural response is to always fix things. We want to fix them right away, and this usually means moving into action very quickly.
However, when we take action off the table, at least for a little while, we are able to explore things more thoroughly. As coaches, it allows us to help our clients dig a little deeper than they are used to. It prompts clients to think about the characteristics that are most useful for a certain situation or the types of things that she/he wants to learn about her/him self.
Taking a step back from action helps your client to really focus in on the areas that are most useful for them to look at. In turn, this will lead to much more meaningful action and will get them where they ultimately want to go.
From this comes a sense of relief, for both the coach and the client. There is less pressure to always find the perfect action because you are both free to explore. As this exploration takes place, action will naturally follow.
